Ingredients

  • 500g Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Chinese broccoli thoroughly and trim off the tough ends of the stems.
  2. In a large pot, bring enough water to a boil to blanch the broccoli. Add the broccoli and cook for about 2 minutes until it turns bright green and is tender yet crisp. Drain well.
  3. Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, MSG (if using), and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, turn off the heat.
  6. Arrange the blanched Chinese broccoli on a serving plate. Drizzle the warm oyster sauce mixture over the top.
  7. Serve immediately as a side dish with steamed rice.
